Serious Illness Education--For PAs, By PAs

Earlier this year we partnered with the Shiley CSU Institute for Palliative Care to launch a seminal course entitled, PA Certificate in Palliative and Serious Illness Care.  It was developed and taught by us as content exerts in the field and offers 72.5 CME hours! It is being facilitated by several members of PAHPM, including lead facilitators Nadya Dimitrov and Lorie Weber, and is now more than half-way through its first cohort of students.  We are already recruiting for the next course offering!

The course offers not only a rich didactic experience for PAs practicing in all specialties and interested in palliative medicine, but also a unique Grand-Rounds style which has led to some poignant discussions with unique clinical pearls and insightful shared experiences by students and faculty alike.

PAHPM is excited by our partnership with the Shiley Institute, and we are looking forward to the next course offering September 23rd--December 16th, 2021.

Spend Some Time

in Time Out!

Pediatric Palliative Care Forum

PAHPM recognizes that adults are not the only patients who experience serious illness.  Kids and their families need palliative medicine and hospice care too!  And for those that care for these individuals, it requires a similar but unique set of skills to provide the quality and compassionate support they need.  We are lucky to have members Fiona Sampey and Rebekah Halpern representing PAs and PAHPM in groups such as the National Pediatric Palliative Care Task Force.  We also want to help connect our members who are looking for PA colleagues who share this passion, and have created a separate forum on our website the PAHPM Pediatric Palliative Care Connect.  This dedicated forum is a space to share ideas, experiences, and mentorship.

We plan to continue to build our education resources on our webpage, and welcome suggestions in the forum on what members need, want, and desire to help continue to grow PAs into this important field!

Start Your Engines! Ready to Share Your Palliative Skills?

It's hard to believe, but next year's AAPA Annual Conference will be right around the corner--and in person!  AAPA has put out the Call for Speakers and as PAHPM has done in the past, we are ready to help!

Speaking is a great opportunity to share your skills, educate fellow PAs, and grow the fields of palliative medicine and hospice care for PAs. It also looks great on your CV!  If you haven't spoken nationally before, or are a regular educator, let us know how we can help!

We are gathering Palliative Medicine & Hospice Care topic ideas, and sharing to facilitate those who would like to coordinate talks and receive an endorsement from PAHPM.  As in years past, we will review at our next Member Meeting July 22nd, and endorse those speakers and topics who we know will help further our field for PAs.

If interested in sharing your topics, click here or on the folder below and join us at our next meeting!
